The Heckler & Koch USP Match appears as the "Vector R-35", and features a grey slide and compensator. The ability to attach scopes to firearms (a mechanic introduced in The Last Revelation) would ultimately be cut from Angel of Darkness, as well as attaching suppressors (a mechanic cut from Chronicles).Ī French policeman "fights" the unarmed Lara with a Mark 23 pistol. It is worth noting that this version of the pistol is correctly shown with an extended barrel, what is likely supposed to represent a threaded barrel, a necessity for mounting suppressors. Some promo images depict the M-V9 with a scope and suppressor. The "Cleaner" uses two gold-plated M1911A1-type pistols with short barrels. Note: Every handgun model uses the same texture on both sides, granting unrealistic features for guns, such as an ambi slide release lever for the M1911A1, or an extractor that is present on both sides of the Hi-Power.Īll handguns also share the same lack of a reload animation, Lara/Kurtis merely return to the pistol to the "Neutral" stance they use when not-locked onto a target briefly and resume fighting while the dual pistols if obtained via cheat/mod have no reload animation whatsoever as Lara simply fires them without stopping and reloads instantly.Ī nickel M1911A1 variant with front cocking serrations and black grips, known as the "M-V9" in the game. In terms of firearms, AoD is notably the first Tomb Raider game not to feature Lara's dual Browning Hi-Power pistols with unlimited ammunition, instead taking the Heckler & Koch USP models seen in the first two films. Its bad publicity is considered to be the reason for Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life's poor box office performance, and it led to EIDOS taking the development rights away from CORE Design, leading to the company's collapse.

The Angel of Darkness has the dubious honor of being the only Tomb Raider game to appear on Wikipedia's list of video games notable for negative reception. After Lara's mentor Werner Von Croy is assassinated in his apartment in Paris, Lara must uncover the mystery behind his death whilst escaping from the French authorities and a clandestine organization that wants her dead.
